Abigail Rae
Originally from a small town in Minnesota, Abigail taught high school English, literature, and writing. She stepped away from traditional teaching to homeschool and open Wildwood Studio, an in-house green graphic design and illustration business. As her family and hobby farm grew, they collected (ahem, hoarded) picture books, art supplies and ideas, which led her to the career she loves most of all. Whoo-wee! A picture book maker, her happy place at last!
Extended Bio
Abigail feels like a curator of treasured moments, weaving daily life and curiosity into deeply rooted stories. As a child, reading was like a scrambled word challenge. Without text to guide her, illustrations became doorways to never-ending stories. At University, her degrees in linguistics, art and education helped shaped her ability to read, make connections and appreciate well placed text. Yes! Another key to another door!
Abigail aspires to create inclusive books, offering alternative ways to experience and interpret the world. She hopes her work provides others with layers of wonder, freedom and space to settle into an experience that is all their own.
